Summertime, and the livin’ is easy. Remember that song?

by Theresa Bradley-Banta · 38 comments

In the event you haven’t already noticed, I’m kind of on a summer schedule here.

Unbelievably, this is my 250th post … in just over 16 months.

While I take my little hiatus feel free to look around and see what you might have missed. Some of my favorite posts are over on the sidebar under Readers’ Favorites. You’ll see some really great comments too!

*********

For now…

I hope you’re having a great summer. I’d really love to know what you’re doing. Please say hello! (It’s super easy, just click on the word “comment” next to my byline.)

I’ll go first. Here’s a little update on what we’re doing:

My husband and I are heading to an alumni gathering of entrepreneurs in San Diego in a couple of weeks. At a spa, no less! (We’re not exactly spa people.)

We’re also planning at least one white water rafting trip sometime in August. You may know we have our own raft… and rafting friends. Now, THIS beats a spa experience every day.

The apartment market around here is hot, so I’m spending a little more time on acquisition and asset management.

I’ve been taking on some new coaching clients. Enough for a summer schedule. Oh, and congratulations to the winners of my contest! (btw – It’s not too late to play, sleepy heads.) I get the awesome opportunity to work with Leanne Chesser over at Wham Solution and with my blogging friend Derek Potocki over at Goalsblogger. Your answers rocked!

We are having our 120 year old Victorian home painted (as I write this). I’ll post some before and after shots. Choosing colors, and deciding on color placement, has revitalized my semi-dormant graphic designer side:)

Jack, our new kitty, and Morgan are getting along famously. Hooray! I really thought it would take Morgan some time to warm up to Jack. Yes, he’s little kitten maniac, but she’s handling it brilliantly!

I’m playing a lot of golf with my husband. And I have standing golf date with my mom on Friday afternoons.

We’re going to some Rockies games.

And you’ll always find me playing the piano. In the summer I feel like the neighborhood is my audience (doors and windows are open). By the way, my worst critic is my bird Charlie. He squawks every time I hit a sour note. It’s amazing how he knows when something is out of tune!

We’ll be hanging out with friends and family. BBQs, laughs and good old summer fun. Hiking, camping, bike rides… maybe a concert. Before we know it the snow will be flying. Let’s make the most of it!

Your turn! What are you doing this summer? What’s your idea of the best summer ever?

Hi Theresa,

WOW! Your summer sounds sensational. Fun-filled and adventurous!

I love Victorian architecture so I can’t wait to see some photos of your freshly-painted abode. I’m sure you’ll choose a beautiful color scheme. And I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who hits sour notes on the piano. :)

Wish I could say white water rafting, a day at the spa, rounds of golf, hiking, camping, bike rides (I love bike riding!), BBQ’s, and Friday afternoons with Mom were on my summertime docket — the picture-perfect summer in my book! But since I work year round (“vacation” and “summertime fun” aren’t in this gal’s vocabulary) …

No Problem. I’ll just plan to live my summer vicariously through you! And it sounds like we’re going to have a doggone good time! :)

Say Hi to Jack Blue and give him a big smooch from me,

Hi Mel!

Jack says “Hi”. He also asked me to tell you that his “mom” works full time… summer, spring, winter, and fall. He wishes she could play all day! Oh, the life of a kitten.
We are squeezing in as much fun as we can. Of course on days like today, when it’s nearing 100 degrees, we’re hiding out inside as much as we can. Those poor painters. How do they do it????

I forget – what type of music do you play? I’d love to know. And did your kids take lessons? Do they play? Speaking of summer fun, do you remember those days when you had to take piano lessons, rather play outside? It was worth it though, don’t you think? I’ve been playing a lot of blues and “classic” (acoustic) rock lately. It was a little goal I set for myself several years ago.

How is your summer going? Surely you’re not working all the time? I’d love to know what you do for fun.

Stay cool,
T

What do I do for fun? (You mean something “enjoyable”, right? That doesn’t involve work?) I “blog” for fun and post comments all over the blogosphere. LOL!

Three of my four daughters took piano lessons. Two of them really didn’t need the lessons — they’re lucky ducks — they play by ear. To me, that’s nothing short of miraculous — whereas I have to read the notes. I especially enjoy playing hymns. I played the piano for our church when I was growing up. Plus I sang in the choir. It was a bit tricky doing both at once, but I managed to pull it off. :)

I also love blues and classic rock!

Sorry to hear about the scorching temperatures. We had those a week or so ago, experienced a brief reprieve, and now it’s heating up again. I really feel sorry for your painters!!

So far, my summer is going great — working all the time. :)

Hi Theresa,

Sounds like a wonderful summer! We used to go Whitewater Rafting in West Virginia every year, but it’s been about 3 years since the last time we went. We did the Gauley Marathon. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of it or rafted it.

This year, we had some big plans that didn’t work out, but for a good reason. My husband and I were planning on visiting a relative in France to see parts of 2 different stages of the Tour de France. We couldn’t go because we were too busy with our business. Instead we are going to spend 2 nights with our kids in a lodge in a state park near our house. It will be fun though, and hopefully the sacrifice this year will allow for better things for all of us next year.

My husband and I have done a lot of bicycling. I’ve been running and swimming. And during July we are, of course, watching the Tour de France on TV. I feel bad that we haven’t had the kind of fun for the kids summer that we normally do,(we usually take a 10 day camping trip somewhere) but I think that will come back again. We just have to be patient.

Hopefully, someday I will have the kind of summer you are having this year!! Enjoy!!

Yes, I do remember that song. It’s a wonderful tune. It was redone by Sublime in the 90′s. I think it’s wonderful that you play piano with your windows open. I would love to hear my neighbor playing piano. What do you play? If you were in my neck of the woods I would request Gershwin, Scott Joplin more than most. :)

So here I am having a good furkle.

“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.”
Strange song that – not sure if it is happy or sad.

I’m off now T, I’ll leave you with…

Now that I’m using Genesis / Wordpress I’m starting to get business websites – with or without blogs.

250 posts is an accomplishment, congratulations Theresa. I am glad you have shared your wonderful experiences. It sounds that you had a fun and relaxing summer, I am very happy for you.

Last summer I went to China with my son. I decided to visit my daughter who is working there as a English teacher. It had much fun there since it is summer compared when it was winter where I spent most of my time in my daughters house where it is warm. I loved spending time with my children, the beautiful scenery and delicious food were just a bonus. I am just happy my daughter is doing well and getting along with the people there.

Love that song!

Glad you had a relaxing summer. My best summer ever includes time with the family, the beach, and helping clients achieve their dreams and personal goals. When we do that we get a great sense of accomplishment and we all get to make money!

Thanks for your blog. It is great!

Hi Keith!

” .. dancing in the rain” — that’s what I say when I’m about to take a shower. :)

I’m getting a little worried about Theresa. Not like her to be gone this long. Hopefully, she’ll return soon with mile-long tales of her summer adventures. Or perhaps she’s given up on blogging. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

How’s everything over at easyP? Peachy?

Pretty good over on easyP and I’m about ready to jump back in to blogging.

I’ve been charting your rise to Super Blogger and admiring your work from afar – too shy to speak out. LOL

Seriously Mel, your various posts and replies to comments around the web are a master class in the art of blogging.

Congratulations.

Hi Deb!

Hi Keith!

How did ya’ll know I was jumping back on the blog today??? Just finished updating a bunch of plugins, approving some comments that went over to spam and poking around the old stats!

Great hearing from all of you! Thank you all so much for wondering if I’d ever come back.

And the stories I could tell… if only this was a real estate blog. Something that is definitely under consideration:)

Great reading your comments — I’ve missed you guys. Looking forward to reconnecting.

Hi Keith

Maybe T isn’t back in the saddle here yet because she’s decided to start a ‘real estate’ blog?

“And the stories I could tell… if only this was a real estate blog. Something that is definitely under consideration:) ”

I think she should go for it! She’s got lots of passion, know-how, and experience in her field.

But here’s how I operate (minus the scalpel, of course — don’t have the credentials for that) …

This infection may have knocked the wind out of my sails, but it hasn’t managed to infect my spirit. :)

P.S. Let’s convince Vernessa to do a video Brylcreem commercial and post it on her blog. What do you say? I’d buy a ticket to see that performance! LOL
