You Can’t Fix Stupid

by Theresa Bradley-Banta · 8 comments

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t fix stupid. You can do something with ignorance but stupidity is incurable. Sad, but true.

Stupid is…

  • Bitching about what someone isn’t doing.
  • Focusing on what’s not working.
  • Talking about why you didn’t get something done.
  • Having a plan and not working it.
  • Thinking no one can possibly understand what you do.
  • Asking, “What’s it going to cost me?” instead of “What’s it going to make me?”
  • Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
  • Ignoring your intuition.

You can’t fix stupid, but you can outsmart it. Here’s a thing to think about. You’ll never outsmart it if you remain ignorant to the fact that you’ve got your head in the sand. You have to do. You have to act. Sometimes all it takes is a feat of stubbornness to get over the hurdle.

What can you do today to move you towards your goals? To catapult you out of inactivity? Will you be bold and commit to it in the comments below?

Lovely post!

No results can come from sitting around moaning, gotta get off your butt and make things happen. Same thing for goals, make them happen by working hard to achieve them instead of looking on the negative side.

Its all about acting like you said Theresa. :)

Hi Phil!

Thanks for your awesome comment. You totally nailed what I’m talking about! It’s kind of an in-your-face post but… I get so tired of hearing people bitch and moan about why things won’t work. Especially when they have the smarts and the ability to make things happen. Sure there’s fear. However, if you don’t start taking chances by getting into action nothing will happen. You just get stuck in your stories — forever!

Great to hear from you!

Isn’t this the gospel truth!!! It can be so easy to look backwards rather than forwards…at what’s not working rather than what is…and man — once you pull out of that gravitational influence and get on the positive side — its a wonderful thing!!!

It is a wonderful thing Ken! You are right on about calling it a gravitational influence. Hard to pull out of sometimes yet even the smallest action can get you going. By taking a small step towards your goals the feeling of reward, of accomplishment, can be so great that you want to feel it again. And again.

Thanks so much for your positive comment!

Once again, you’ve given me a much-needed kick in the pants. I’ve been meaning to pitch a magazine an article for ages and have kept putting it off because I’ve been busy with other things. But I think my real excuse is that I think it’s a long shot, which is silly because I’ve taken those long shots before and have been surprised with the results. So I need to get back to taking those risks again. Thanks, Theresa!

You’ll really like what I wrote today Natalia! I seem to be in a ‘kick in the pants’ frame of mind lately.

I think it’s really interesting what you said in your comment. You’ve made an incredibly brilliant observation about your own motives. Not an easy thing to do. At all. You’ve been putting something off because ‘you’ve been busy’. But you really know at heart that it’s a little risky so, you put it off. We all do that, don’t you think? BUT not everyone realizes or acknowledges that’s what they’re doing.

I’m thrilled you left this comment today. I’m also so glad that you’ve pointed out that when you’ve taken those risks in the past, you’ve been surprised with the results. I’d love to hear more about those results! For now, you’ve given everyone here some food for thought and some excellent encouragement to just go for it. Thank you for that Natalia!

An opportunist once said “we keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths”. “Moving forward” seems a phrase apropos for this group. Quite frankly, it’s that underlying advancing current that keeps me coming back to this blog. When we act on instinct borne of lessons learned, executing and adjusting mid-stride instead of stopping to wallow in the regret of inaction, it’s then we can gain momentum, then we can share encouragement and counsel with our sisters and brothers as we all move forward, action propelled. I’m sorry for sounding so horribly melodramatic. I’m still in “Harry Potter” mode, just left the “Deathly Hallows”! I guess I could have better summarized the whole thing in Tweeting fashion with, a “RT of all the above” and “keep moving forward”. (followed by a something, dot, tinyurl, something, lol) Thanks again Theresa and fine contributors! Ciao! Sol.

Thank you for the wonderful comment Sol! I love the Disney quote. So, an opportunist huh? Curiouser and curiouser. Could one say entrepreneur? Self-seeker? Bottom feeder? Without regard to principles or consequences?

You’ve absolutely nailed the underlying current. Hmmmm… your comment sums up something like 10 or 20 posts. All in one brilliant comment. This blog is always open to anyone who would like to contribute via articles. I hope you’ll consider it. Until then I’m thrilled you’ve pointed out that we are all brothers and sisters and that this is a pretty cool place for us to play together.

Glad you didn’t succumb to the temptation to ‘tweet’ this comment. Think of what we would have missed!

Thanks for the awesome comment Sol.
