Being Useful and Compassionate in Business

I’ve always liked the following quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson although frankly I have a little bit of an issue with the “not to be happy” part.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

Have you found that when you are useful and compassionate, that generally you are a much happier person? Do you take this attitude and way of thinking to your business and to your work place?

A compassionate business can contribute to the world and contribute to the well being of others. A business with a value add mindset can improve lives.

And, I believe we will all be happier in the process.
