In your heart of hearts are you in business because you want to please other people, or because you are truly passionate about what you do?
Are you trying to force an outcome?
In his 12 Core Dynamics of Common Problems our friend and mentor Tom Stone defines “forcing an outcome” as,
“Being attached to some event happening in a particular way (my way) and being blind to the thing happening in some other way”.
Tom notes that in the absence of this dynamic,
“… I get the sense of myself from the essential nature of who I truly am rather than from ideas / definitions of who I think I am”.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could worry less about what everyone else thinks about you?
Wouldn’t life be a whole lot easier if you could find just the tiniest bit of passion for your business and stop worrying when things aren’t going exactly the way you want them to?
To simply say, “My heart and mind are open”.
Letting go is an art. What’s wrong with saying, “I don’t need to define who I am — I can let my heart lead for a while”?
What do you do when things aren’t going the way you expect them to? Are you looking inside or outside yourself to know you’re doing a good job?
We have an acquaintance who started a new business, and after 9 months we still have no idea why she went into business for herself.
She seeks no guidance from her peers and would never consent to having a mentoring relationship. She wastes an inordinate amount of time worrying that, “No one wants to be in business with me”. She then wonders why the business isn’t working by doing things her way.
The point is, if she listened to her heart she would choose another path more suited to her ways.
It’s a conundrum.
What’s your heart telling you? We’d love to hear.

Good article. It will get people thinking and maybe doing things a different way so they are following their heart.
