I told my husband this morning that I wished it were Saturday… I needed another day off. I never dread Mondays, so what’s up? Well, nothing really. Monday, for once, seemed like just more of the same old stuff. Not true. It just seemed that way.
Do you remember when you couldn’t wait to get out of bed and work on those crazy, great ideas you have?
Take a minute for yourself and see if you can find some inspiration here to avoid burnout.
Exercise. Get some sleep. Eat well. So obvious, so overlooked.
Quit planning. It’s true, you can plan your life away. You can reevaluate a plan until you’re blue in the face. You can plan so diligently you fail to take any action at all.
And that’s the potential pitfall of planning. Here’s what you can do.
Stop what you’re doing and take action. Replace 3 time wasters with 3 things requiring action on your part… NOW. Forget Facebook for the day, turn off your email for at least 4-5 hours, it really won’t kill you.
Wondering what to do? Read on.
Dream up some new ideas. Be imaginative about your business. Where could you make money that is totally out there, or crazy? Find new motivation. Who could you partner with part time, full time or thru a new joint venture?
Be willing to risk failure. Are you afraid of getting a “B” instead of an “A” on that new idea of yours? What do you want, the right answer or an original idea?
Just thinking of new ideas can have a huge impact on your actions and on who you see when you look in the mirror. Do you see an innovator or someone who is ready to plod thru another day following the same old routine?
Write your statement of purpose (manifesto). What are you after? Can you draw a picture of it or write it down in two sentences? You get it, right? Manifesto? Manifest? This is what you are in business for. This is what used to get you out of bed in the morning (with excitement).
Have you drifted so far away from your original purpose that you’ve completely lost sight of it? This is what you are going to create. Your why. If you need a memory jogger, look at my list of twenty or so simple things you can do today to give purpose to your life. Check it out now.
Seriously revaluate your to-do list. Is this vital? Is this urgent?
Clean desk, clean mind. That piece of paper you’ve handled three times? Toss it. File it. Delegate it. This also applies to email.
And, checking email after your day has ended? Stop it. A clean mind means you are not going to bed with a business email running laps around your brain. Take a breather before day end. Do something nice for yourself even if it’s just a walk around the block.
Listen to some music.
Change your environment. Sure this requires getting in your car or packing a bag for a walk but this will do wonders for your mind. Work at home? Grab your laptop and go in a room you would never consider working in. You will see everything from a new perspective. Work in an office building? Move to the broom closet.
I go to the local golf course and watch the players on the first tee… it’s a lot better than watching the pros. And, it becomes repetitive – perfect for clearing my mind of everything else. This is why doodling works.
