Try, Can’t, But… Is that what you meant to say?

Whether playing golf, working on building your business, or interacting with friends… what you say, and how you say it matters!

I’ve been coaching, mentoring and participating in mastermind & goal setting groups for over a decade.

I hear the following words all the time… and I usually call people on it. There is no worse self-sabotage than using language that sets you up to fail.

Get these words out of your language. Remove them from your vocabulary!

“But”…

“Tina, I’d love to go on a date with you, but…” (I really wouldn’t)

Saying “but” usually invalidates what you just said.

“Can’t”…

“I can’t quit my W2 job”.

The moment you say “can’t”, your mind quits working on solutions.

“Try”…

“I’ll try to get there…”

Was that a “yes”, or was that a “no”? There’s no such thing as try.

If you have trouble hearing yourself using these words, challenge your family and friends to help you.

You can make a game of it. Put your money where your mouth is. Each time you say the words “try” and “but”, it will cost you $1. For each time you say the word “can’t”, it will cost you $2.

Start saying, “I can, and I will”!
